Arcade Fire. Be still my heart. This song sings to my soul, and I can't imagine them ever topping it. Listening to this song around 2 am and riding my bike down deserted provo streets always exactly what the doctor ordered.
This song is by an artist called DeVotchka. This is my favorite song of theirs. They are a band from Colorado, probably with intense beards. A lot of their music sounds like a mixture of Russian and mariachi music. His voice is amazing. They also did most of the music for "Little Miss Sunshine."
OK, originally i attempted to post the remix version, which i really like. I think I like it so much because the end, my favorite part, is extended. Thom Yorke's voice seriously melts my soul. He is so amazingly creative and unique.
I love Mason Jennings. Yeah, maybe a lot of bros do to, but I don't care. I wanted to post a song from his new album, but they still aren't available. I saw him on wednesday in Salt Lake, and he was great as always. I played with a sizzlin' little Australian fajita named Missy Higgenson, with whom I fell in love. I don't know if it was the short hair, the cuteness, the talent, the accent, or all of the above, but I desire to wed her. Anyhow, "I love you and budda too," "Your new man," and "Soldier Boy" were some great new songs that he played. Check em out.
OK, so during my three days of joy with my Hyundai Sonata, I had XM radio. I found a punk rock station. It took me on a little trip down memory lane, as punk rock is my roots. Anyhow, much to my pleasure and joy, this song happened to sneak its way upon the digital airwaves. Probably the last song I expected to hear, even on a punk rock station playing an endless drove of old school. Anyhow, as simple and rudimentary as this song is, I love it. Do they have a great deal of talent? Hell no. But it is good, ol' fashioned punk rock at its finest...simple riffs, amusing lyrics. Not to mention a pretty poor drummer. Whatev. This is for Mark.
I love this band. I love T for introducing me to this band. Wait. Actually it was Jessica Veda who introduced them to me. T just told me about them. That is neither here nor there. Anyways, this song sucks me back to Logan, a very strange time in my life. I absolutely love the way the the husband's and wife's voices mix together in Mates of State. Fun music, unencumbered by excessive instruments and flashy solos. Love them to the max.
Mark called me at least 5 times while I was working because he was so ridiculously excited about this band called Foals. He then proceeded to take me to lunch the following day, and made me sit in his car in the Costa Vida parking lot for about 20 min listening to various tracks on this fantastic, 6 dollar album. Some form of a Rapture/Bloc Party hybrid he called them. I think some of their tracks have a few Minus the Bear elements. Well, whatever they are, boring, slow, and unoriginal would not be accurate attributes. Their music is fun, dancy, and upbeat. Their tracks often go through various tempo changes throughout, which keep them interesting. Their 13-track album is only $5.99 on I-tunes. Yo check it!
Just wait for a the claps around minute 3, and the song will have been well worth your listen. This song does feature the F bomb so...yeah. I love The Rapture. I thoroughly enjoy the mix of indie rock and electronica. Many a fantastic dance track.
On a scale from one to fantastic, this song is right up there around, yes! I love it! The whole album, also titled Dear Catastrophe Waitress is my favorite that Belle and Sebastian have put out thus far.
This track is from a band called Fischerspooner. Mostly this is being posted for Peter, who was supposed to look them up but never did. Plus I love the song. Quite possibly one of my favorite dance tracks.
Fun. This song is fun. I realize that there are probably a lot of people who might be annoyed by his voice, but...not a whole lot of people actually visit this portion of my blog so I don't care. The artist is The Bravery, by the way.
This song is by a band called Born Ruffians. Jared and I saw them with Caribou back in October I think. They were super fun. I like their choppy style. Their drummer plays some pretty crazy random beats. They are from Canada, and the lead singer looks like he is about 17. Those two bits of information are in no way related.
Wilco. This band has a daunting discography. Their various discs are very diverse. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is probably my favorite. This song is great. I'll leave it at that, since my research paper is becoming jealous.
Elliot Smith. I wish he hadn't stabbed himself in the chest...or that his girlfriend didn't stab him in the chest...or whoever. I just wish that no heart stabbing had occurred. His music is beautiful and somewhat haunting. His music career ended far too prematurely. Enjoy the hell out of this song.
So at some point I had to throw a little punk in here. I love NOFX. One of the few punk bands I still pull out of the closet. I love Fat Mike's voice, which has only gotten better over the years. This song is from their latest album. Their songs are generally short, which always leaves me wanting more. This song is actually about killing president Bush, which I certainly don't condone. However, one of the things that I appreciate about NOFX is the fact that they are at the very least informed. They are not your typical, senseless, anarchy-spouting punk band. Even though I generally don't agree with them, they are at least informed, and aren't simply spouting lyrics about topics of which they know nothing. The last verse in the song says, "...There's a priest kneeling next to me, he asked me if I realized, I was goin straight to hell, and he thought that I should know, that the man I killed's replacement planned this whole scenario, and what I did, had no significance...at all." In other words, even if we get rid of a bad one, the next one is probably just as bad. Happy voting. Anyways, it's a fun song. So there.
This song is by a band called Halloween Alaska. I love the calming effects that their music has upon me. When feeling ponderous or meditative, I love letting this band soothe me into a state of relaxation.
Love minus the bear. I feel like a lot of their songs have a slow build up, like a huge plane that can barely take off. Then suddenly, the plane takes off. Lame example, but thats the way this song feels to me, it has a slow build for about a min, and then suddenly off it goes. Love it.
So this track probably falls along the lines of slightly weird. Nonetheless, I love it. It simply makes me happy. For whatever reason, it makes me think of spring.
I realized this is probably not a new song to many of you, but it is truly one of my favorites. In my unexperienced music critiquing opinion, this song is perfect. I absolutely love the way it begins, with the synth, then drums, then guitar, then bass and another guitar. It ends in the opposite fashion. I love his unique voice. Anyways, I feel that Clap your hands say yeah! have outdone themselves on this one, and I fear that I will never love another of their songs as I love this.
This fine track is by a band called "Band of Horses." Guys with huge beards playing great music. This song warms my heart strings and makes them sing. And it is about the Great Salt Lake, which is like...practically my favorite lake. Shallow, full of brine shrimp, and you float in it. Whats not to love? This song is most definitely not shallow, as is said lake. Enjoy. To the max.
